In a 2019 survey, one in five primary school teachers reported there was no regular music lesson for their class. Four years on, the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation, leaving us with a generation of children who have missed out on a vital period of creative exposure. It isn’t too late to reach them, but we must act now.
By working in schools, Synfonia can reach children who might otherwise never discover the experience of a full symphony orchestra up close and join in with the music-making – something which simply can’t be replicated through a streamed performance or recording.
At the other end of the education system, our aspiring orchestral musicians have had some of the best training in the world, but are entering a precarious profession at a difficult time. Synfonia offers them stability while they establish themselves in their careers, using their talents to bring classical music to a wider and more diverse audience.
To do all this we need your support. Your generosity will help children to blossom, enable young musicians to make the first steps in their careers, and inspire the classical audience of the future.
