Last Friday may have been the hottest day of the year, but it was also a monumental day for Synfonia. After many months of planning, we headed to Riverley Primary School in Leyton with the Hirvi Quartet for our first ever event!

Working with pupils from Year 3 and Year 6, we kicked things off with a bit of Vivaldi, danced our way through a Schubert minuet, discussed visual inspiration (and pencil stealing!) by way of a Dvorak quartet and explored playing techniques with Ravel, before deconstructing some minimalism with music by Glass to finish. It was so inspiring to see such an engaged and enthusiastic young audience – we can’t wait to do it all again.
Many thanks to everyone at Riverley for making us feel so welcome, especially to Lewis Delivett (Director of Music at Griffin Schools Trust) for inviting us. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did and look forward to seeing you again soon! We’re also very grateful to Philip Carne for his generous support, without which this event wouldn’t have been possible. Our focus now moves to the full orchestral event later this year, so keep an eye out for future updates.
