Our new orchestra page…

Prev

We have a new addition to our resource section! Following on from our timeline and map, we’ve been taking a look at what an orchestra is made of – literally. Please give a warm welcome to the Synfonia guide to the orchestra

New - orchestra map

The orchestra guide dives into the individual components of a symphony orchestra, exploring the different instrument families and what makes each of them unique. The interactive layout allows you to click on each instrument to reveal a brief (if irreverent…) description, along with a playlist that showcases what they can do. Each section is also colour-coded by the wider orchestral sections of strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.

The pieces included in the playlists range from solo snippets to whole symphonic movements and will be updated over time – so if we’ve missed your favourite tuba concerto, get in touch and we’ll see if we can add it in. And let us know on our social channels if any of the music we’ve picked has given you a new-found appreciation for the viola!
