A friend of Holst, to whom Coles sent compositions from the trenches in case he didn’t make it home. He died in 1918.

Unable to enlist due to his poor eyesight, Holst spent the war years in England composing his most celebrated work, The Planets.

Lover of folk songs and morris dancing, the young composer tragically lost his life during the Battle of the Somme, aged 31.

One of the greatest English composers, and a good friend of George Butterworth. Served in the war as an ambulance driver.
